The first model of this historical reference dates back to 1963. This model is associated with the world of motor racing and was designed to meet the chronometric needs of professional drivers. The model had, and still has, three counters and a tachymeter scale that allows drivers to precisely measure their time. Despite being Rolex's most famous model, it wasn't an immediate success. The most iconic model is the Paul Newman made of steel with an Exotic dial. It was worn in 1969 by Paul Newman on the set of "Virages", a film directed by James Goldstone. The model owned by Paul Newman was sold in 2017 by Philips in New York for $17.8 million. The Rolex Daytona 16520 - White Dial features a 40 mm case and a Caliber 4030. This reference is the first Daytona to have crown guards. This model is particularly sought after as it was produced in limited quantities due to the movement being outsourced (Zenith).
