The first Rolex Explorer watch was officially introduced in 1953 with the reference 6350 after the first successful ascent of Mount Everest. However, references 6098 and 6150 were presented in 1952 as the first prototypes of this model, without the name Explorer on the dial. As its name suggests, Explorer is the ultimate watch for explorers and mountaineers. Made of stainless steel, it is rugged, resistant and can endure the most extreme conditions. The dial is easy to read and features the classic 3,6,9 dial. The goal was to design the ultimate exploration model that could withstand very low temperatures and up to 70% less oxygen than at sea level. The Rolex Explorer 5500 has a 34mm case, which is significantly smaller than the cases of the 1016 and 6610 from the same period. The dial features the " EXPLORER " and " SWISS T<25 " markings at 6 o'clock, referring to the presence of Tritium, with a radioactivity level below the 25Mci required by law. The dial also features an inverted triangle at 12 o'clock.
Rest assured your watch comes from trusted, reputable sources. No imitations, no questionable intermediaries, no cause for concern.
