The Rolex Submariner was introduced in 1953 with the reference 6204 and was the first waterproof diver's watch in history. This model featured a stainless steel strap and a sturdy case that allowed it to be worn down to 100 meters. Its water resistant capability was later increased to 300 meters. Its unidirectional rotating bezel allows divers to track their dive times and decompression stops. Furthermore, the Rolex Submariner's glowing hands and markers make it easy to read even in deep water. The Rolex Submariner 5508 No-Date was created in 1957 and features a 37mm case and a Caliber 1530. This model is one of the last to feature the iconic characteristics of the early Submariner models. There is no crown protector on this watch. It can be easily recognized from the other " no crown protector " references by its 6 mm screwed crown, which is much smaller than the ones on other references. This is also the last Submariner to be water resistant up to 100 meters. The following models have a water resistance to 200 meters or more.
