The Rolex Submariner was introduced in 1953 with the reference 6204 and was the first waterproof diver's watch in history. This model featured a stainless steel strap and a sturdy case that allowed it to be worn down to 100 meters. Its water resistant capability was later increased to 300 meters. Its unidirectional rotating bezel allows divers to track their dive times and decompression stops. Furthermore, the Rolex Submariner's glowing hands and markers make it easy to read even in deep water. The Rolex Submariner 6200 No-Date is water resistant up to 200 meters, and is referred to as the "Big Crown Mariner" because of its large 8 mm winding crown (instead of 6 mm). This model became rare because it has an Explorer style dial, i.e. with Arabic numerals "3", "6" and "9". About 300 pieces were produced. The 6200 does not have a Submariner marking on the dial, and has "Mercedes" style hands. However, in rare cases, the " Submariner " marking appears on the dial. Over time, some dials change from black to brown (Tropical Dial).
